About Mustafa Vahgjipurwala

Principal Engineer
• I am a Certified Energy Manager (PEM) and Chartered Energy Engineer. I actively look out for new technologies which can reduce energy consumption and make the organization more sustainable. I have led teams to carryout feasibility studies for introducing such initiatives in the organization saving costs up to $ 160,000/year and reduce carbon emissions up to 1500 tons/year. • I have around 15 years of experience in project engineering & management in the energy industry (oil & gas, refinery, buildings, etc.), involving complex projects world-wide, leading diverse teams in remote locations and upholding high standards of professionalism. • I take full responsibility for budget control, implementing cost saving measures, of up to $ 5 Million, supply chain management, engineering design coordination and ensuring project delivery within schedule meeting all client requirements. I have also worked on several project bid estimations, working out in detail the costs and resource requirements.

Experience
Company: Petrofac Duration: Sep 01, 2007 to Present . 16 years 8 months
Position: Principal Engineer Description:
Energy Management & Sustainability: • Pioneered Energy Management System (ISO 50001) in the organization  Planned in detail requirements for energy audit, survey and measurement, reports and roll-out for company-wide implementation.  Presented detailed analysis of how EPC cos. could work with Operating cos. for implementing energy efficiency in design as a guide to be used in the industry. • Successfully attained certification for Professional Energy Manager.  This aided me to identify several opportunities within the organisation, such as HVAC energy demand reduction, zero waste, water conservation, energy efficient lighting, etc. to help achieve target of Net-Zero. I led a team of ~10 engineers in preparing detailed business case and execution plan. Savings of ~$100,000/year with reduction in carbon emission by 400 tons/year.  Studied various aspects of energy efficiency measures possible in instrumentation design and presented as a guide to be used in the industry.  Skills acquired: Energy Fundamentals Energy Audit Electricity Concepts Energy Efficiency in Equipment/Systems such as Boilers, Generators, HVAC, Pumps, Lighting, Insulation, Steam Systems, Compressed Air Systems, etc. Energy Efficiency in Buildings including Envelope, Controls Demand Response Energy Saving Calculations Commissioning for Energy Efficiency ESCO And Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Concepts Maintenance Best Practices Energy Baseline Benchmarking Performance Monitoring & Reporting Measurement Verification & Validation Data Analysis • Reached out to technology providers to work out feasible solutions  Introduced hybrid solar-diesel power for camp site to reduce reliance on fossil fuels under PPA basis. For a case study: cost savings ~$60,000/year and carbon emission reduction ~950 tons/year.  Conceptualized installation of water generating technology using solar panels at camp sites to reduce plastic waste and overall cost under Water Purchase Agreement basis. For a case study: emission reduction ~180 tons/year. • Carried out feasibility studies for renewable energy projects and presented business case to management for approval.  Proposed innovative solution for generating power for Remote Block Valve Stations using renewables (such as solar power, wind energy, etc.) and μ-CHP (Combined Heat and Power) which was more economical compared to conventional options such as overhead / underground power lines, etc.  Carried out feasibility study for waste to energy prospects in oil and gas facility • Assisted business development in Renewables and Waste to Energy sectors Engineering, Procurement & Construction: • Tinrhert Field Development Project, Sonatrach, Algeria As Deputy lead handled contract management of all field instrumentation commodities worth around $20 Million with team of 10 engineers. Also, led part of project engineering management activities for instrumentation such as FGS design finalization, 3D model review, FATs, etc. which involved interdisciplinary coordination and communicating with remote offices. Implemented cost savings of up to $ 5 Million of total installed cost at various stages, such as P&ID Review, value engineering workshops, HAZOP, etc. Trained several young engineers to handle complex packages. • Jazan Refinery Tank Farm, Aramco, Saudi Arabia Led all aspects of design and implementation of Blending and Movement Automation in control system, including interdisciplinary coordination. Also, participated in control system design finalization and FAT. We delivered the control system cabinets in record time to site (>100 panels in 1 month), which was immensely appreciated by the client. • Upper Zakum 750, ZADCO, U. A. E. Led all aspects of design and procurement of actuated valves (1300 nos.), analysers, etc., including offer evaluation, contract management, inspection, communication with remote offices, etc. Successfully delivered all commodities to the various modular construction sites and as per schedule. Also, involved in design of modular buildings. • New Power Distribution Network for North Kuwait ESPs, Kuwait Oil Company, Kuwait Led team of 3 engineers, working from remote office, to complete all aspects of Building FGS design and interfaces with other disciplines within budget (~$ 600K) and schedule. Handled all aspects of contract management for instrumentation commodities. Received appreciation from client for delivering overall project ahead of schedule. • Kashagan Field Development Experimental Program Tranche-3, AGIP KCO, Kazakhstan Handled complex packages such as compressors with PLC control, analysers, ICSS (DCS/FGS/ESD), control valves, etc. and completed all residual engineering activities within budget and schedule. Coordinated with site construction and commissioning teams and resolved all queries using analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure completion of site activities as per schedule. • Worked on several bid estimations for new projects, including materials costing, manhours budget, risk management, etc.

Company: Reliance Industries Ltd. Duration: Sep 01, 2006 to Aug 31, 2007 . 11 months
Position: Field Operations and Panels Engineer Duration: Sep 01, 2006 to Aug 31, 2007 . 11 months Description:
Gandhar Petrochemical Complex, Gujarat, India • Learned about the various aspects of plant instrument maintenance activities, such as calibration records and schedules, spares inventory management, planning for shutdown, etc. • Solved many emergency events in the plant by directing technicians to take corrective action. • Successfully completed loop checking during shutdown of Gas Cracker Plant.
